The client reached us with the request to develop a web application that can serve as a product portfolio, connect marketing teams with sales field managers to equip the latest with recent product statuses and information, and generate descriptions of samples that can be sent to production and are needed for presale activities.
Our client is a German multinational company that has five chemical production plants in Western Europe, Asia, and Americas. Their field sales managers experienced hard times selling with a 100-page non-digital product portfolio which by the time of their demos might have had some outdated marketing information. What’s more, the processes needed automation of sending requests from the presale team to production.
The product discovery phase unveiled the following technical requirements. The product portfolio aims at helping decision-makers on the client side better select products based on their key criteria. From the development perspective, this meant the need to have different characteristics and filters, data representation views that allow classification, comparison, evaluation and, consequently, selection of the right product(s) and their amounts.
The development scope of the web application included both the “server-side” and the “client-side” chunks of work. The client-side design equipped client success teams with an easy-to-navigate process of organising and demoing a large volume of products data. Our BAs suggested grouping each portfolio item into categories that in turn enable smart filters based on product overview, product functionality, and regulatory aspects. Functionality and regulatory product tags help the company’s pharmaceutical clients to make the right choices instantaneously.
