The Objective Behind the Project

A company, that specializes in the development of digital solutions for the agricultural industry, reached out to Infinity Technologies with the request to help in the development of a telemetry system that enables manufacturer-independent farm management with free access to the data from agricultural machinery and farmers’ hardware.

Challenge

Defining the Core Challenge

The idea, that lies behind the project, is to create a management system that will be able to control the fleet of machinery, even when the vehicles and utilities are of different manufacturers, models, and years of manufacture.

The System should be able to control the scope of different machines like tractors, thrashers, shredders, wheel loaders and more in one place.

Another important task of the developed solution is to track every single machine working in the chosen field at every moment with the connection to the point on the map.

In addition to machine tracking, the System should provide users with comprehensive documentation on the office computer on the smartphone.

Solution

Solving the Challenge

To meet the challenge, the project team developed a cross-platform telemetry System, available as a web and iOS application. The System will gather the information from the hardware installed on the mobile work machines and transmit it to the application.

The machines are equipped with telemetry modules which launch automatically when the vehicle is started. They collect information about the location and condition of the vehicle. The telemetry modules have their GPS receiver.

The gathered information is transmitted to the server with all usable data from the tapped interfaces and the identifiers connected to the machines at intervals of a few seconds using a multi-SIM card.

The System saves the gathered data about the processed territories, productivity, errors that occurred, etc. It helps to receive and utilise detailed and up-to-date information about all the business processes and tasks.

In addition to the functional part, we’ve added to the System 2 new features:

The user can choose any point of the field on the interactive map and check what happened there at every moment: which machinery has worked, for how long, what has been done, etc).

The integrated APIs allow farmers to integrate the System with their own management systems, software and machinery fleet.

At the final stage of development, some bug fixes were performed, and some changes in design were added. In particular, we’ve changed the application’s fonts according to the brand design and added multiple language packs.

Results

Outcomes Delivered

The telemetry system provides the users with fully automatic information about machine locations, working, waiting idle times, fuel consumption and more.

This enabled field-specific documentation and accounting, available in web or iOS applications in the form of comprehensive and easy-to-read maps, graphics, and statistical charts. A navigation component in the app complements the farm management system.
